“Gremlins” Have Heart

The North Massapequa Fire Department Drill Team, “Gremlins”,
participated in the Sixth Batallion Old Fashion Tournament this past
weekend and showed flashes of a rich tradition and tenacity that has been
the basis of its 50 year existence. The leadership of drill team captain,
Lt. Kevin Mauro, shows exactly why this Department is always on top.
Though many obstacles were there to hurdle, Kevin found away to amass
a team of young and old “first timers” and meld them together with some of
the returning faithful to show the entire sixth battalion that we were
still here and not to be forgotten. No, we didn’t win it all, but we did
place fifth overall and included in that were one 3rd place and a couple
of 4th place finishes in the individual events.
With the heart that this team showed, the fifth place showing might
as well have been 1st place and ultimately proved what we can do when our
hearts and minds are in right place. The future does look promising and it
is this writer’s belief that we will win it all very soon.
